Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth instalment in the ever popular franchise, is set for release on July 7, 2017, still more than two years away. However, as is the trend with blockbusters nowadays, lots of interesting facts and rumours about the film are beginning to appear. After the well-received The Curse Of The Black Pearl and the generally well-liked Dead Man's Chest, the Pirates series had a downswing in quality with At World's End that only got worse with On Stranger Tides - hopefully the fifth film can right the ship (oh, puns) and bring the series back to the kind of movie that everyone fell in love with in the first place. Or at least something that isn't incredibly dull. Dead Men Tell No Tales is an intriguing title for the movie that inspires a ton of plot speculation. While some of the rumours may seem like hearsay, others are seemingly confirmed by crew comments and the casting of certain actors. This article will shift through the masses of speculation and tell you the ten things you most need to know about Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Batten down the hatches and away we go.

Although Dead Men Tell No Tales' release is still over two years away, pre-production on the film has been ongoing since September of 2014 and it is set to begin filming in February, meaning confirmation of some rumours is bound to be around the corner. The film be shot in its entirety in Australia, a perfect locale given the series' trademark setting of beautiful open water and the occasional desert island. Scenes will be shot in Port Douglas, a breathtaking beach in the northeast of Australia that is sadly known for being the place Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray. Pirates 5 is apparently the biggest production ever shot in Australia, which should give some idea of the scope of the thing. Since the start of principal photography is just around the corner, set photos and videos both official and unofficial should be released any day now, and you might even get your hands on a synopsis some time this month. Either way, expect more official information about the movie far sooner than the actual release year of 2017.

It Has Two Directors From Netflix's Marco Polo

After the first three Pirates instalments' director, Gore Verbinski, was unavailable to direct On Stranger Tides due to commitments to animated film Rango, Disney brought aboard Rob Marshall. For the fifth film, Disney has again decided to infuse the franchise with new blood - meet your new Pirates directors, Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. Rønning and Sandberg hail from Norway and already have significant experience under their belts, directing the first two episodes of Netflix's new series Marco Polo and also the film Kon-Tiki, about the attempt to sail from South America to Polynesia on a small raft. Kon-Tiki ended up being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, so there's some pedigree here. Rønning and Sandberg certainly have the experience to move up to a blockbuster and the subject matter of their award-winning movie, a voyage on the high seas, certainly fits the theme of Pirates Of The Caribbean. An interesting trend in Hollywood recently has been indie and foreign directors being "upgraded" to blockbuster films, and here's hoping Rønning and Sandberg are one of the more successful examples.
