LOVELIEST OF TREES

A.E.Housman

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough
And stand about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide

Now, of my threescore years and ten
Twenty will not come again
And take from seventy springs a score
It only leaves me fifty more

And since tok at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room
About the woodlands  i wiil go
To see the cherry hung with snow

Analysis :
a.       Style of the poem is Ballad
Because of this poem tells the story of adventure and is written in quatrains.

c.       Symbols
-          the cherry (in the poem the cherry is loveliest of trees)
-          springs (the speaker describes star of a llife is beautiful)
-          snow (represents winter and the finaly of life)
-          threescore, twenty, seventy, fifty ( describes about  brevity of the time he will have to enjoy that beauty)
d.      Imagery
-          image in the first stanza is Housman tell about of early spring with blossoming cherry trees which represents the beauty of nature like Eastertide party in England when early spring describe naivete and purity.
-          In the second stanza is Housman use imagery allusion to the age allotted to man in the Bible that of life the human until threescore years and ten or seventy years like that spring here stands for a full year.
-          In the third stanza is Housman describe blossoming cherry trees to represent all of life and woodlands to represent the world. While, the last line “To see the cherry hung with snow” describe winter and the finaly of life.

Because it usually “Lovely” using for human but in the poem lovely describe for nature.
f.       Basic point
In the adventure writer after Easter tide party , he attention  blossoming cherry trees. He think that fifty years again his live never change. In this time , his age is twenty years and he consider that his life will death when seventy years. So , he don’t waste the rest of life. Such as, cherry trees in the early spring and ending in the winter.
